You select pages and functions for your website that make sense for you as a business owner.

  • About, Bio, History - Say as much or as little as is right for your business.
  • Mission - You commonly see a mission statement with non-profits but they may be used with most business types.
  • Services - Depending on your business service pages may apply; you may also go with individual services pages if you have enoough material.
  • Products, eCommerce - If you're planning to offer products for sale then you will need some sort of eCommerce application.
  • Donation - Is yours a non-profit? If so you'll have need of a donation form with Donate Now buttons.
  • Tutorials - Tutorials are incredibly useful; they can be done with text, images and video - and of course the videos can also be uploaded to a service like YouTube.
  • Contact - Most businesses will have a separate contact page which might include your address, a map for local visitors, and perhaps some other useful data, maybe your service regions.
  • Custom forms - The most common form used on websites is the contact form. There are also registration forms, newsletter sign ups, describe your project(s), etc.
  • Data table - Tables are commonly used to display sortable data for visitors . What are some examples? A list of products, a nameslist, sporting statistics, a list of spammers, much more.
  • Testimonials / Reviews - It's become common for visitors looking for a service to view testimonials and reviews before making the phone call.
  • Frequently Asked Questions - Your FAQ page can be used to field common questions that your clients and customers regularly ask.
  • Industry terms - There are common terms used in various industries. It can be very helpful to visitors to provide a list of these terms, abbreviations and definitions.
  • Articles - It might seem like work but article sections and blogs serve useful purposes. They demonstrate your willingness to share ideas and information with your visitors, perhaps solicitating feedback. They also help to keep your website dynamic in the eyes of search engines.
  • Blog - A blog is a nice interactive addition to a website where you can post articles that are open for commenting.
  • Clients - A client list.
  • Demos - Demos are probably most suitable to a service/business in which you would like to give visitors an option to view demos or work samples.
  • Administration - It is common with most websites to have an administration section, password-protected, where you get access to update page content, galleries, etc.

Special functions:

  • Sidebar - Sidebars are common on website where you want to display special functions on the page, perhaps a menu, maybe a list of latest articles or blog entries, anything that works for you.
  • Sitemap area - For very large websites you may need a separate sitemap page where all the pages on your website are listed. You can also go with a sitemap area, commonly positioned about the footer where you list various aspects of your business in columns, akin to shortcuts.
  • Registration / Sign-in
  • Regions - If there is any doubt about where you do business list the service area on its own page.
  • Toppanel - A top panel is a narrow panel that displays at the top of a webpage usually for the purpose of making certain tasks easy to access. It could be used to display a sales note, hours, etc.
