About the gallery

I call this a four-step gallery because you can get up to 4 different sized variations of an image depending on the view. These sizes are not set in stone; depending on need we can make adjustments. This particular gallery works best if images are of uniform size and either all portrait or all landscape. To mix/match landscape and portrait we would need to set up a square border and center the images both vertically and horizontally to keep images lined up.

As you hover over an image a slightly larger thumbnail displays with any title text you have added. For more information hover over the top of the image and select it. This brings you to a new page with a 4480x360 px image and full content associated with the image. Selecting that image will then open the original unscaled image which you have uploaded.

The image administration tool works with a MySQL database to store both image information (filename, etc) as well as content.

Image size and page weight - depending on your audience we need to exercise caution with the number of images as well as their size in KB on a page. For practical purposes we do this by either limiting the number of images to display on any one page and/or adjusting the resolution/density/quality to minimum parameters for the image size. Digital cameras are wonderful devices, but they come with baggage. The image quality they are capable of for print is far greater than what is reasonable for the internet.
