This is an example of a push slideshow (push becauses the slide in the queue pushes the slide along and out of the picture). Slideshow captions are an available option as well as navigational arrows with or without the thumbnail pics.
The slideshow use Mootool (JavaScript) libraries to manage the functionality. This particular variation is an example adopted from Electricprism, www.electricprism.com. It all goes to show that you don't need Flash to have neat slideshows. As with most of the other slideshows you can configure the image in the viewport to link to another page, perhaps a larger version of the same image.
