Drop shadows & diagonal lines

Drop shadow with image created in GIMP

The .GIF image on th e left was created in GIMP using the drop shadow function, (Script-Fu --> Shadow --> Drop-Shadow). When viewed in GIMP or Photoshop it looks good. When viewed on the desktop or through a browser the shdow displays as solid black. The problem was that .GIF image format does not work for see-through type dropshadows. The image on the right was saved as a .JPG. .PNG should work as well.

Rotated a few degrees left and saved as a .gif. Anti-aliasing was applied to the image using Photoshop CS2. If I figure out how to do this in GIMP I will add an example.
